Thanks Nikhil_CV. I looked at the Security History and found the reference. I seem to have chosen Custom instead of the default Allow when setting some N360 options. It seemed lke a good idea at the time but I didn't really know what to expect then.

Here is the History entry which is announced by the Activity "You created firewall rules to manage how OSEH  accesses your netork resources.":

Category: Firewall - Activities
Date & Time,Risk,Activity,Status,Recommended Action,Category
2014-06-12 12:19:22 PM,Info,"An instance of \"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe\" is preparing to access the Internet.",Detected,No Action Required,Firewall - Activities
An instance of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" is preparing to access the Internet.

It occurs after the entry whose Activity description is"Rule detected TCP(6) traffic with ds.ssw.live.com (207.... Port www-http(80) ) :

So now I know most of the story. The original act of selecting Custom gave a brief, not entirely helpful, description of what is involved including the creation of a log. Could you tell me where I can find that log?

Thanks again.

For the record: Windows 8.1, Norton 360 version 21.3.0.12
