This is my Norton story:
Norton was my first antivirus (only the av not firewall) I saw & used even before I got my first pc (an assembled Asus, which too had provided norton av 60 day trial!)
So, I always had a passion towards using it.
Well that was the case long ago, some 8 or 9 years ago. I used that pc without much problem for nearly an year. Then due to some wiring and power problems, it closed its eyes. Later I had nearly 6 full replacements for it, with avs' like avast, avg, kaspersky, zonealarm etc, but each was dead as i had next replacement pc.
Then in 2012, I got a laptop (samsung make) with NIS preinstalled with 60 day trial.
Due to very very very high disk usage for the first 2 months (the problem which was reported by many during that time and solved in some update patch later), I tried to uninstall it after trial, but my samsung software manager didnt allow it:(. It would flag your system is out of protection when I uninstall NIS, and will only settle down if I reinstalled NIS. No other software including N360 could be installed properly and mute it.
(that issue was solved when samsung updated some day afterwards) But that kept me back with NIS!
Thus I bought NIS disc from online store and continues it happily year after year for past 3 years.
(Also, I keep myself satisfied with NIS using my own static and dynamic testing with malware samples and attacks in virtual environments.)
I also keep copies of other famous security software including NS beta in virtual environment on a test pc to keep myself updated about their changes.
(PLEASE Dont put this post under microscope and analyse ;). I wont be following this)
.
So, why I keep NIS and recommend it is that:
*good deals online
*this forum:)
*trust to its detection techniques and layered approach
*light on system usage
*name of Norton / Symantec
*self satisfied with my own tests (except the cases of multiple icons, pup and vault. Pup was not faced by me, but my friends and test had it as a problem)
:D
