I updated my 32-bit Cygwin system and after the update had apparently completed I got an indicatation that Auto-Protect considered u2d.exe to contain Trojan.ADH.2. u2d is (supposed to be) a simple program that converts unix formatted files to dos format, simply changing \n to \r\n.
1) The u2d.exe program no longer exists. I can't analyze it myself or submit it for analysis.
2) I can't tell whether the post-install update functions completed or were aborted when this occurred.
(Cygwin has an extensive post-install process that is required to complete an update.)
3) Most importantly, apparently this file was submitted to Norton as a statistical submission. Do I ever get to find out whether the analysis was completed? If so, how and when do I find out? It's possible (but unlikely) that the Red Hat servers have been compromised.
Norton thinks that no further action is needed. I disagree.
If the file is infected, Red Hat needs to know. So do I.
If the file isn't infected, I have to know what was action was taken earlier in order to figure out what to do to fix my installation now.
