Yes that was the link i followed. and followed the steps to check whether another programme is conflicting with internet explorer, which at first didnt work when i disabled all the programmes and restarted, so i enabled them again and restarted, internet explorer was still not working. but when i tried to open norton it worked and the first box (security) was red and when i clicked on fix and run scan it fixed it.
Amazing and darn good troubleshooting.
