Hi, jim123. Why were you using Power Eraser ? It is an advanced tool to be used only as a last resort, as it can delete critical files.
With Windows 8, a proper shut down is needed for Norton to update itself.

Also, it might be worth trying the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, which will replace your current copy with a clean one.
If used, please read the before you begin note, and run Live Update after, until no more are found.
