Hi, jim123. Why were you using Power Eraser ? It is an advanced tool to be used only as a last resort, as it can delete critical files.

With Windows 8, a proper shut down is needed for Norton to update itself.

Also, it might be worth trying the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, which will replace your current copy with a clean one.

If used, please read the before you begin note, and run Live Update after, until no more are found.

Let us know how you go. FWIW, I've always used an Admin account as some software requires it, and I've never had a problem.
