I found out the hard way that Norton doesn't backup all my files.
I learned you can manually specify the hundreds of possible file extensions in the "Other File Types" section of Manage Backup Sets. There is a LOT of clicking to do to perform this operation one at a time. Where is the information stored, so that I can use a programming editor or IDE to build my list?
Examples (just a few for the sake of the post, I have MANY extensions for over 95,000 of my files that are not backed up by default:
.7z
.asp
.aspx
.bak
.bat
.cfg
.chk
.cp
.cpl
.cpp
.css
.dat
.db
.etl
.h
.iso
.jar
.js
.log
.lsl
.lst
.man
well, you get the idea.
IT WOULD BE NICE IF I COULD JUST ENTER * but "*" is not a valid entry for Norton.
Also, how am I going to backup files that don't have an extension, that are VERY important, such as /windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts which I edit regularly?
Backstory: I discovered this whole problem when I could not restore my OneNote application data, because only certain Microsoft OneNote files were backed up and others were not. Then I realized none of my .SQL files or just about anything else of importance was being backed up.
