I believe I have the iexplore.exe virus since in task manager iexplore.exe is running twice when I open Internet explorer, one at 4-5k memory and the other at 60-80k memory.

Internet Explorer uses a separate process for each open tab.  It is normal to have more than one instance of iexplore.exe running.  It sounds like Norton blocked some sort of web attack.  It would be helpful to know the details.  From what you have posted, I don't think there is any reason to suspect that your computer was infected with anything - but without knowing what Norton was alerting to, it is impossible to tell.
