If you never registered your subscription to your Norton Account (you're given the option of doing so when you install, but it's not forced), then you would not have this method available. Under those circumstances, you'll need to have your Product Key to reactivate.
Dick's suggestion is also a possibility; sometimes, for example, a subscription gets registered to a spouse's account instead, especially since each user needs to have their own Norton Account to use other Symantec services like Norton Zone (cloud storage).

So, as long as I have the product key, when I restore my computer to factory settings (and uninstall whatever virus protection is there by default) Norton should reinstall no problem? I don't have to do anything to it before I restore?
