I would say you can leave it - as it's been there awhile now and you are not at risk - are you?

Adjusted the clock by -0.8 seconds this morning. Usually morning corrections are several seconds, disturbingly high. I'll keep re-synching with time-b.nist.gov every morning to see if that stops the 3038,104 errors.
Hi, yank.
I'll leave it there then. One less thing to worry about. Thanks. :smileyhappy:
Help!
Having just successfully replaced my Norton 360 product with NIS 3PC version (on my Windows 7 laptop), I am now attempting to download NIS to my Windows XP SP2 desktop machine. I succesfully removed the old Kaspersky product, and apparently successfully downloaded the Norton Download Manager (from MyNortonAccount) to the XP Desktop.
However, on trying to run the Download Manager, it doesn't even start - I get a 'Not a valid Win32 application' message (presumably from Windows).
I hesitate to try downloading again, as this might count as a 3rd download. I did reboot the PC between download and attempted run of the Download Manager.
My NIS is a boxed version, so I do have a CD if this would help at all.
All thoughts welcome.
Peter
Just checked My Account - it still has NIS as having 2 downloads left.

As mentioned earlier, the installation(s) were done by Norton Support people. So I have not the installation. They have uninstall using Control panel, uninstalled the softwares which they felt unnecessary (including CA anitivirus) used norton removal tool, removed from registry, downloaded the latest version the norton webiste and installed the N360
I do have ccleander installed in my system
Since all th support personal and you are telling that installing a latest version will resolve my problem. So i have these questions:
1. Support people themselves did the task of removing the software and reinstalling the same. But it has not resolved the issue. Does this mean support people does not know the actual issue in India?
2. Including you any norton person I came across says that installing the latest version will resolve the problem. Does that mean the earlier versions were having lots of problem and I was sold when Norton was not working ptoprtly.
Thanks, Yank. Yes, LOL, I know there is a Snipping Tool here in WIN7 but I've not yet tried it, I'm so used to Paint that I forget about ST...
Hi rbala,
You did a System Restore after you talked to Norton chat - thus running System Restore in most cases messes up your current install of N360 - the one that Norton support did. That is why I recommended a removal, run the NRT and a reinstall.
The folks from India are normally proficient in what you say they did - but by you running a System Restore can negate their efforts - that is one of the main reason I normally do not recommend a System Restore until much later in the troubleshooting.
Installing the current version of a program (with all the updates) is advisable for all programs - not just Norton. By installing the most recent and all the updates to it, you are first starting with a new install and all the updates available, including any fixes that could have been incorporated in the latest version update. So no it does not mean the earlier versions were having lots of problems - rather the newer ones have corrected most of the problems in the earlier ones and usually addtional improvements. Thus the current version may repair anything that was a problem in the eralier version, was reported and corrected in the newer version.
Talk about the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. I have definitely lost confidence in Norton.
It just dawned on me after considerable wasted time that NPE.exe which is in the the user dub_cm_auto which I am unable to delete due to not having administrator privileges for that user is actually a norton product : 'Norton Power Eraser' which provides a deep scan when their regular scan does not work and was downloaded from ther web site.
Why on earth they would set up a dummie user which we have no authoritiy to delete and no information is extremely unethical in my opinion.
Hi JaniceL-2495,
I am not sure why you would be prevented from deleting this folder. You did attempt to delete only the dub_cm_auto folder, and not the users directory, correct? As for the ethicality, it was posted earlier in this thread that this was an unintended problem with the update, not something done by design.
Hi SendOf Jive,
I appreciate you taking the time to respond and speaking on behalf of Norton & realize that errors and bugs are the nature of technology however
what I take issue with is that the individual user account is set up so that 'EVERYONE' has persmission to:
read and execute,
read, &
list any and all contents of the
user folder 'dub_cm_auto - this also applies to the application folder & the older version of the program NPE.exe
I am UNABLE TO UPDATE THESE PERMISSIONS - Adminstrators have full control but apparently I do not have administrator's privileges on my own computer for this user.
When I run the updated version of power eraser it shows no threats and a hyperlink at the bottom of the screen saying that PAID SERVICE is available to fix any problems I may be encountering. which sounds pretty bogus considering it is their software that put me in this situation in fhe first place.
Hi JaniceL-2495,
I do not speak on behalf of Norton. I am just a user of the product, like you. Since I and many others have been able to successfully remove this folder with no problems, it seems odd that you are having this issue. One thing that came to mind was that you may have inadvertently tried to delete the user\ folder rather than just dub_cm_auto. What was the exact message you got when you tried to delete the folder? I am not sure why you ran NPE. The paid service you refer to is a virus removal service that might be necessary if NPE is unable to remove a threat that it has found. Regular Norton support is free to subscribers and if you are having a problem removing this folder, you could certainly ask Norton for help through one of the free normal customer support channels, not the specialized fee-based NortonLive Services.

Even if you downloaded the downloader again, it would not count against your activation count.
If you prefer, you can use a direct download of the installer, and then enter the key yourself. Download NIS from www.norton.com/latestnis
After installing, be sure you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
I'm backkkk. This time I get an occasional Norton Pop-up at the upper-right corner of the Desktop.
I have Win8.1. N360 is current. Here's a picture of the pop-up:
I click but nothing noticable happens. All N360 scans completed. Anyone know?
As always, TIA
Hi, Rusty. Maybe you have Notifications turned on for Norton special offers. I have it turned off.
The Special Offer Notification option lets you receive special offers on the latest Norton products, add-ons, and other useful information from Symantec.
When this option is turned on, Norton Internet Security notifies you about the Norton special offers and other updates from Symantec.
By default, the Special Offer Notification option is turned on. If you do not want Norton Internet Security to alert you with Norton special offers, you can turn off this option.
It's in Settings/General/Other Settings. Set to off, if you don't wish to be notified.
Thanks, @F4E. I found the setting.
Hi,
I have just installed a SSD for C: boot volume (OS Windows 7 Home).
I have turned off the Idle Time Optimiser to prevent defraging.
I have four HHD's for apps and data. Is there a setting that allows Norton to defrag these disks without including the SSD?
Thanks.
Hi,RustyHightower.
Turning off Norton Notifications for special offers, as suggested by F4E, will usually do the trick. But I say usually, since it didn't work for at least one person (see Link 1).
In the end, they conclude that the root cause of this notication pop-up problem may be due to this person using Microsoft's (Win8/8.1) local account as opposed to its cloud account (see Link 2). So what I'm trying to say is that if this problem persists, don't freak out. :smileywink: Unfortunately, it may not get fixed any time soon. :smileyfrustrated:
You might check this older thread. It comments on the files left behind after a product upgrade. It could still be the case for the file you found. http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-folder-contains-these-files-What-does-each-of-them-mean/m-p/805328/highlight/true#M217103
I am still waiting for your image to be approved by a moderator, so I can see the path to your file.
If Your product is working correctly, I would not worry about what files are where. As long as Norton can find what it needs, and there is a green check mark in the Norton Icon on your system tray, your installation is correct.
Any files that are on your other computers could just be leftovers from some earlier update/upgrade.
