Re: Identifying PCs in Norton Management

thanks for the reply. I tried this with the desktop and then the laptop. Nortons showed both items as the same device?? Surely there must be a part of Nortons that will allow the device name to be changed on the device which will reflect in Norton management?

I even tried renaming the laptop and waiting for Norton Management to detect the change. It still comes up as the same device name?

Very frustrating for a simple problem.  Maybe time to contact support as I do not want to remove the devices and reinstall although it appears tempting to do this. Most likely the devices will appear again as the same name.

Thanks

Re: Norton 360- Task Manager (High Memory)

It was getting that high when I had opened Norton Identity Safe. However it wasn't going back down afterwards. After reinstalling chrome it seems to be back to normal.

Hi Stiff_Bored78,

I just noticed that your version is shown as 21.2.0.38 in lieu of the most current version 21.3.0.12.  If that is part of the message saying it can not be found (or something similar),   I'm thinking that you are trying to open N 360 P via a desktop shortcut that has not been updated to reflect he most recent version of N 360P which may be installed on your system.  If this is in fact a desktop shortcut icon that you are using, please open windows explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine64\21.3.0.12 - verify that this shows the 21.3.0.12 and then go back to the desktop shoprtcut icon, select properties and then edit the Target to reflect the 21.3.0.12 in lieu of the 21.2.0.38.

I am on Win 7, but am using IE 10 and have no problems, however the KB2929437 is not installed on my system, as it appears to concern IE 11 and you state IE8?  I do have the other two KB's you mentioned installed.  Have you tried installing these KB's one at a time to see if only one of them is causing your situation?

Reinstall Windows or update to a newer version of IE, like IE 9 or 10 or 11, however I doubt that the second will provide good results, as you already having Microsoft updates installed, I wonder how, that are not supposed to be for your system.

Re: Identifying PCs in Norton Management

Hi skiingman,

Let me try to show you what I want you to look for:

Note this is on the My Devices Tab within Norton Management.

Below,  Bruce-Windows Vista is my laptop which is currently OFF line.

Damnyank-PC is my Win 7 desktop which is currently Online circled in RED

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
which one.PNG

I asked before for you to :

"Turn off your laptop!  Leave it off until Norton Management updates the status of the Laptop (by not showing it as Online).  In the mean time, your desktop should display Online.  Thus with the laptop off (not showing Online) and the desktop on (showing Online), you will know which "name-Windows 7" system is which. "

Once you figure out which one is which, you can go to the one you desire to change the name of (I elected my Damnyank-PC

by selecting the Pencil Icon circled in BLUEwhich opened the box the arrow points to so I could change the name and finish with an OK.

Hopefully this is clearer and  helps you.

If everything was working correctly before the  KB updates, you may be able to just check your Windows system files.

Click on Start and type CMD in the search box. Right click on cmd.exe and click on Run as Administrator. Type 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes. This will check your Windows installation and try to correct any errors it finds.

Norton Backup message need to Activate my acount

Hi

I have been using Norton 360 for some time now and running it regularly. However, just recently the Backup fails and I get a messgae stating I need to activate my account???

I have done everything as far as I can see, what is it I am missing?

Cheers

Tamrover

Comcast Norton Firewall

My third party online backup program (SOS Online Backup) is no longer connecting to its home server.

SOS help desk says to ensure that the firewall allows access out.

I've checked the firewall rules in my Comcast Norton Suite (Ver. 21.2.0.38) and it *appears* that all the backup program's exe files are set to "allow."

The reason I'm posting here is that the last successful backup was May 21, which I believe was about the time of that massive 200mb+ download/update.

Could that Comcast Norton update have changed something?

Is it possible there are other "firewall rules" I should be checking?  Any others have program access glitches after the big update?

If you have any thoughts, they would be most appreciated.

Re: Comcast Norton Firewall

Norton's Smart Firewall is usually pretty good a making it's own rules, have you tried resetting the firewall?

Is Norton 360 really causing the "Microsoft Windows Network: Not Enough Storage... Error?

I have W7 Pro SP1 with Norton 360.  I just recently switched from NIS to 360.  And now I cannot access a home network hard drive which is connected to my Cisco EA6500 router.  I had no problems before I switched to 360.  All the searches on the internet try to say that it is due to an IRPStack value in the registry.  When I checked mine, I didnt even have that key listed.  So after inserting it and try many different values it still gives me the error.  Further searches show that Norton and other AV suites can cause this.  Anyone have a similar experience?

Re: Is Norton 360 really causing the "Microsoft Windows Network: Not Enough Storage... Error?

I have a system that I needed to change the IRP stack value from the default 15 to a value of 17 in order to be able to access the system from others on the network.

But I don't know if Norton has anything to do with it, I have a home network running the same version of Norton that I didn't need to make any changes on.

Re: Is Norton 360 really causing the "Microsoft Windows Network: Not Enough Storage... Error?

Thanks for the response , Dave.  Hopefully someone else will chime in here with a fix for this.  But until then, I gotta say over 5600 posts from you on an AV forum?  WOW,  Unless you work for Symantec you gotta get out more...hehe.

Re: Is Norton 360 really causing the "Microsoft Windows Network: Not Enough Storage... Error?

Cannot access Verizon account

I've been having a problem accessing my Verizon FiOS account on my home computer.  This first occurred about ten days ago.  When I typed in the web address, the web page did not load correctly.  I did some programming in the past, and it appeared to look like incorrect coding which caused the page not to load right.  When I tried to sign into my account, I received the page, "This page can't be displayed." message.  I ran the Windows Network Diagnostics and the report said the web server I was trying to ready was temporarily unavailable.  So I tried the next day and was able to log into my account.  The web page loaded correctly.

Last Monday I tried to sign into my account and again the web page did not load correctly.  I clicked on one of the links and received the following message on the Yahoo search page:   "The requested URL https://verizon.com .... cannot be found or is not available.  Please check the spelling or try again later."

I ran the diagnostics again and received the same report.  When I viewed the detail information, it said:  "This could be due to communication issues between your network's proxy or gateway and the web server.  The proxy of gateway returned the error HTTP 502."

The steps I've taken to resolve this problem:

1.  Reloaded the webpage.

2.  Started a new browser window.

3. Cleared brower's cache and cookies.

4. Started browser in safe mode.

5. Started IE with no add-ons.

6. Restarted router; resetted router.

7.  Ran scans.

8.  Contacted Verizon.

I tried another browser, Google Chrome, and the same problem occurred.  I was able to access the Verizon website at work.  I do not have another computer at home so I don't know if there's a problem with my laptop.   The Verizon web page appears to be the only site I've come across with this problem.  I have contacted Verizon.  They said the problem has been resolved, which it has not.

I'm wondering if the firewall is unintentionally blocking the web page from loading correctly and keeping me from signing in.  I have not changed any settings to Norton.  In fact, one day last week, the program wouldn't open and I had to purchase a new program because I exceeded the three installations.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: Cannot access Verizon account

It looks like a problem using the https protocol - the site does not load for me either, when entered that way.  Try http://verizon.com.

Re: Canon utilities image transfer utility has stopped working

Norton will not stop a program from running, unless there is malware involved. Once running it may block internet traffic it sees as a danger.

I would suggest checking the Canon site to see if there is a newer version of the product. It could be a Windows update may have interfered with the operation of an older version.

If no newer version is available, it would be worth reinstalling the current version. There may be a repair option when you start the install.
